Raymond K. Smith

Raymond K. Smith, 90, of Great Barrington Road died Thursday morning at Kimball Farms in Lenox. A lifelong resident of West Stockbridge, he was born on Oct. 14, 1915, son of John P. and Jennie M. Carpenter Smith He attended local schools, graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1933. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he enlisted on July 2, 1941, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 14, 1945. He worked as a technician at the Mead Paper Company in Lee for many years until retiring in 1980. He was a member of the West Stockbridge Congregational Church, where he served as a former trustee and treasurer. An active member of the community, he was a past master of the West Stockbridge Grange and past master of the Wisdom Masonic Lodge in West Stockbridge and the Monument Chapter RAM. He was an honorary member of the West Stockbridge Sportsman's Club, a member of the New England Fire Chiefs Association and a member of the Joseph Lombardi American Legion Post 254. He was a former town finance member, town assessor and served as the cemetery commissioner in West Stockbridge for many years. On Oct. 21, 1944, at St. Patrick's Church Rectory in West Stockbridge, he married the former Corrine Consolini, who died June 6, 2004. He is survived by his son Raymond K. Smith, Jr., and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for the late Raymond K. Smith, who died Feb. 16, 2006, will be held on Monday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. at West Stockbridge Congregational Church, conducted by Rev. Belle Fox-Martin, minister of the West Stockbridge Congregational Church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in West Stockbridge. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 19,from 2 until 5 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Stockbridge Congregational Church Memorial Fund or the West Stockbridge Fire Department through the funeral home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Smith of Dalton and Amber Lynn Smith of Boston.
