David Keefner

David Keefner, 63, of Berkshire School Road died Saturday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Great Barrington on July 7, 1942, son of Benjamin and Dora Race Keefner, he attended the former Searles High School. Mr. Keefner was employed in the maintenance department of the Southern Berkshire Regional School District from 1987 until retiring in 1998. He also worked for Lee Lime Corp. and John B. Hull Inc. He served as president of the union at Lee Lime. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, playing cards and working on stock cars. He built and drove stock car No. 19 at Lebanon (N.Y.) Valley Speedway. His wife, the former Christine Senk, died Dec. 19, 1991. He leaves his partner, Kristine Heath, with whom he resided; a son, Daniel Keefner of Keyser, W.Va.; three daughters, Brenda Zampaglione of Litchfield, Conn., Bonnie Keefner of Monterey and Gail Wright of Housatonic; five brothers, Harold B. Keefner, Clifford A. Keefner, Thomas F. Keefner and James Keefner, all of Great Barrington, and Donald R. Keefner of Lee; two sisters, Eleanor "Toots" Hamling of Stockbridge and Helen C. Hankey of Great Barrington; 11 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. Another son, David B. Keefner, died May 15, 2004. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for David Keefner, who died Feb. 18, 2006, will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 10 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Great Barrington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tomorrow, Feb. 21, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy in David's memory be made to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815. Survivors include sons-in-law Jeffrey Zampaglione and John Wright; 11 grandchildren, Ashley, Jessica and Abigail Keefner, John, Kelsey and Joshua Wright, Juliet, Elizabeth and Katharine Zampaglione, and Alison and Cassie Stone, and a great-granddaughter, Danielle McFadden. He was predeceased by a brother, A. Joseph Keefner.
