Paul S. Blanchette

Paul S. Blanchette, 80, of 1 Berkshire Square died Friday afternoon at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Springfield on July 4, 1925, son of Arthur and Anna Smith Blanchette, he came to Adams at the age of 7, and attended boarding schools in Montreal, also attending the University of Ottawa in Canada. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the 4th Marine Air Wing, being honorably discharged in May 1945. He worked for General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for 37 years as a certified manufacturing engineer, holding several manufacturing and engineering positions in the Chemical and Transformer Departments, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs and St. Thomas Aquinas, where he was custodian, chairman of the Notre Dame Parish Council and headed the former Notre Dame bingo for many years. He was a coach for the St. Francis Church League Basketball team for several years and was the equipment manager for the Adams Junior Football Program for 13 years. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Disabled American Veterans. He leaves his wife, the former Joan Lewitt, to whom he was married on Aug. 7, 1948 in St. Francis of Assisi Church by his uncle, the late Monseigneur Joseph T. Smith, former pastor of Notre Dame Church in Adams. He also leaves three sons, David Paul Blanchette of Sunderland, Richard James Blanchette of Stuart, Fla. and Gary Alan Blanchette of Palmer, and seven grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Paul S. Blanchette, who died Feb. 24, 2006, will take place at Monday at 9 a.m. from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Notre Dame church in Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday form 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in his memory can be made to the Notre Dame Church Renovation Fund through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Nathan, Scott, Jason, Teri, Nicholas, Alison and Matthew Blanchette, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Blanchette.
