Alexander Mark Bashara

Alexander Mark Bashara, 15, of 151 Bull Hill Road died Sunday as a result of injuries sustained in a snowboarding accident at Jiminy Peak. Born in Pittsfield on April 30, 1990, son of Mark and Hilary Johnson Bashara, he was home-schooled and later was enrolled in Berkshire Community College. Alex was employed by Jiminy Peak as a snowboard instructor for the past two seasons. He was also a partner with his mother in Berkshire Scenic Treks and Tours, where he conducted tours and taught canoeing. He was a member of South Congregational Church. He enjoyed working out, running, scuba diving and playing the piano. He also enjoyed snow sports, attending car shows with his father, and spending time with his sister. Besides his mother and his father, Alex leaves his sister, Arianna Joy Bashara; his maternal grandmother, Joy, and her husband Rick Killfoille of Pittsfield; and his maternal grandfather, Richard C., and his wife, Cindy Johnson, of Ocala, Fla. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Alexander Mark Bashara, who died Sunday, March 12, 2006, will be Wednesday, March 15, at 10 a.m., at South Congregational Church, 110 South Street, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Joel Huntington, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lanesborough. Calling hours will be today, from 4 to 7 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Alex may be made to Berkshire Community College Foundation to establish a scholarship fund for home-schooled youths who also attend B.C.C., in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Alex is also survived by his beloved aunts, Jennifer Johnson of Hinsdale, and Stephanie (and her husband Brian) Lawton of Cheshire, and his uncles Christopher Johnson of Cape Cod, and Timothy Johnson of Pittsfield.
