John D. Springstube

John D. Springstube, 88, of 82 East Alford Road died yesterday at home after a long illness. He was a former member of the town's Finance and Conservation committees and was a field driver and fence viewer. Born in West Stockbridge on Dec. 27, 1917, son of Ethel Springstube Kilmer, he was a 1935 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge. He also graduated from the General Electric Co. apprentice course. Mr. Springstube was employed by GE and operated Springstube Farm with his uncle, George R. Springstube, and, subsequently, with his son, John W. Springstube. He was a member of West Center Congregational Church and the Alford Card Club. He and his wife, the former Eleanore Clara Herré, were married Oct. 21, 1944, at Alford Village Church. Besides his wife and son, of West Stockbridge, he leaves two daughters, Anita H. Minery of Otis and Cynthia A. Muenkel of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Mary Palardy of Lee; a brother, Leonard Kilmer of Great Barrington, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- In accordance with his wishes, services for John. D. Springstube, who died Monday, March 27, 2006, will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in John's memory may be made to the Richmond-West Stockbridge Fire Company and Ambulance EMTs in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815, which is in charge of arrangements. He also leaves four grandchildren, Lyn Herré Minery of Otis, and Amy Eleanore, Georgianna and Alexandra Jane Springstube, all of West Stockbridge.
