Adelbert W. Sharp

Adelbert W. Sharp, 90, died Saturday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox. Born in Hancock on Jan. 7, 1916, son of Winfred and Pearl Maynard Sharp, he was a lifelong resident of Hancock and was educated in area schools. A World War II Army veteran, he served with the 688th Medical Hospital Ship and earned the rank of sergeant. He received several campaign medals. Mr. Sharp worked for 15 years at Taconic Mold in Dalton as a molder, retiring in 1983. Before joining the service, he worked on an uncle's farm and at General Electric Co. Upon his return, he worked at Hancock Mill and at W.J. Cowee Co. Inc. in Berlin, N.Y., for several years. He was a member of Hancock Baptist Church, American Legion Post 162 in Williamstown and served on the Hancock Cemetery Committee. He enjoyed flower gardening. He leaves his wife, the former Edna B. Whitman, whom he married June 29, 1946, in Stephentown (N.Y.) Baptist Church. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Adelbert W. Sharp, who died Saturday, April 1, 2006, will be Wednesday at 11 at HALL & HIGGINS FUNERAL HOME, 457 Route NY 43 in Stephentown, N.Y. Interment will follow in Hancock Cemetery in Hancock. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow, April 4, from 4 to 7. He leaves two cousins, Janet Boody of Windsor and Doris Geerholt of Berlin, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Williams.
