John Galvin

John Galvin "Jack" Main Sr., 79, of 87 Windsor Pond Road, a former Adams resident, died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Norwalk, Conn., on March 23, 1927, son of Clifford C. and Elizabeth Murphy Main, he attended schools there. He moved to Adams in 1971 and had summered in Windsor for many years before moving there permanently. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Main was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for the Richmond post office from 1974 until retiring in 1993. Before that, he worked for R.I. Baker Plumbing in Clarksburg and as a plumber in Norwalk. He was a communicant of the Parishes of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. He enjoyed stamp collecting and had wintered for many years in Venice, Fla. His wife, the former Jeanne J. Evon, whom he married Dec. 1, 1951, died Dec. 28, 1995. He leaves three sons, Peter J. Main of Pittsfield, John G. Main Jr. of Windsor and D. Michael Main of Titusville, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia Morandi of Dalton; two sisters, Jean Valenti of Tennessee and Alice Lundelius of Connecticut, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for John G. Main Sr., who died May 19, 2006, will be Wednesday, May 24, at 9 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Catholic Parishes of Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are tomorrow, May 23, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to any charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home, 12 Hoosac St., Adams, MA 01220. He leaves four grandchildren, Heather, Marissa and Matthew Main, and Kyle Morandi, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
