Norman S. Haas Sr.

Norman S. Haas Sr., 76, of 75 Commercial St. died Friday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Petersburgh, N.Y., on April 16, 1930, son of Marvin T. and Mary Thomas Haas, he moved to Williamstown as a child and attended schools there. He lived most of his life in Pownal, Vt., and moved to Adams in 2000. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served with Battery C, 48th AAA AW Battalion, and was honorably discharged in July 1952 with the rank of corporal. Mr. Haas was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Pittsfield, retiring in 1980. Before that, he worked at the former Arnold Print Works and at the former New England Lime Co., which was bought by Pfizer Corp. in 1962. He also was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams and by the former Gypsum Co. in Cheshire, and was the former proprietor of Norm's TV Service in Cheshire. He was a member of the Maple Grove Civic Club and the Cheshire Rod and Gun Club, and was a craftsman. He leaves his former wife, the former Charlotte O'Brien of Adams; five sons, Peter F. Haas of the town of Florida, Richard J. Haas and Craig Pekosz, both of Cheshire, and Michael Pekosz and Norman S. Haas Jr., both of Adams; two daughters, Susan L. Columbus of North Adams and Debra M. Dean of Adams; a brother, Ernest Haas of Pownal, Vt.; two sisters, Kitty Turner of the state of Florida and Alma Augenstein of Warwick, R.I.; 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Norman S. Haas Sr., who died Friday, July 21, 2006, will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, from TROTTIER PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, 01220. Burial, to be announced at a later date, will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga, N.Y. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service. Donations in his memory may be made to the Adams Ambulance Fund through the funeral home. Three brothers, Mervin, Robert and William Haas, and three sisters, Marion Green, Edie Scriven and Shirley Keating, are deceased.
