Mary Frances Cummings

Mary Frances Cummings, 95, of 807 Cordova Greens, Largo, Fla., and formerly of 73 Elmwood Ave., died Sunday at Emeritus Oaks Retirement Facility in Silver Dale, Wash. Born in West Springfield on Oct. 2, 1910, daughter of the late William H. Fenton and Catherine Isabel Veideman Fenton, she graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield. She attended Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee and later graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a bachelor's degree in French. Following her graduation, she served as a governess teaching English to the children of a mayor of a town north of Paris in 1933 and 1934. During World War II, she served as an officer in the Massachusetts Home Defense programs. Upon her return to the United States she was a homemaker. Her husband, Dr. V. Paul Cummings, whom she married on Sept. 19, 1936, in West Springfield, died on April 13, 1984. She was a longtime communicant of St. Francis' Church. She leaves two sons, Vincent Paul Cummings Jr. of Allenhurst, N.J., and Kevin Peter Cummings of Silver Dale, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mary Frances Cummings, who died Aug. 20, 2006, will be Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 at 10:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPELS, North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Church, North Adams. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to North Adams Regional Hospital in care of the funeral home 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247. She leaves two daughters-in-law, Ruth Cummings and Janet Graham-Cummings; five grandchildren, Kevin P., Paul M., Brigid D., Douglas B., and Katherine A. Cummings, and two great-grandchildren, James K. and Michael F. Cummings. She was predeceased by a brother, William J. Fenton, and a sister, Isabel Fenton Stinson.
