John Walter "Obie" O'Bryan

John Walter "Obie" O'Bryan, 63, a 30-year resident of 53 E. Main St., Cheshire, died Monday, Aug. 21, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a short illness. Born in West Rutland, Vt., on Jan. 16, 1943, son of Leona Kalinowski O'Bryan of Pittsfield and the late Donald O'Bryan, he was educated in Vermont and Cheshire schools. An Army veteran, he served from January 1960 through January 1966, and he was stationed in Germany. Mr. O'Bryan was employed by Petricca Construction Co. for 28 years, retiring as a foreman in 1994. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local 473, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a past member of the Cheshire Rod & Gun Club. He was also a Red Sox and Patriots fan. Mr. O'Bryan and his wife, the former Dorothy "Dee Dee" Shaw, were married Sept. 3, 1967, in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Sean E. O'Bryan of Cheshire and Trevor P. O'Bryan of Adams; two daughters, Shelley L. O'Bryan of Cheshire and Teisha M. O'Bryan-Schwarzer of Lanesborough; a brother, Donald O'Bryan of Becket; a sister, Gerryanne Curtis of Argyle, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for John Walter "Obie" O'Bryan, who died Aug. 21, 2006, will be held Friday, Aug. 25, at 4 p.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire, celebrated by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor. The family will receive family and friends in Father McAuliff Hall at St. Mary's Church, from 5 to 7 p.m., following the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. O'Bryan may be made to the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department in care of DERY CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire, MA 01225. Mr. O'Bryan leaves his six grandchildren, Daniel, Timothy, Cody, Kyle, Ciera, and Alayna, as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
