Catherine Tracy Staples, 78, died Wednesday on Hilton Head, S.C. Born in Great Barrington on Feb. 29, 1928, daughter of Edward and Mary Bailly Tracy, she attended local schools. She was a longtime resident of Hyde Park, N.Y., where she was a homemaker. Prior to that, she worked briefly as film editor in Davenport, Iowa. She moved to Hilton Head in 1983, and to Bluffton, S.C., in 1993. She was a communicant of Saint Gregory's Church in Bluffton. She enjoyed designing jewelry and floral bouquets. She leaves her husband of 59 years, William F. Staples of Bluffton. In addition to her husband and her sister of Great Barrington, she leaves a daughter, Kim Donsbough of Bluffton, and a sister, July Hearn, of Great Barrington. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral Mass for Catherine Staples, who died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, at SAULS FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, S.C., with entombment in Low Country Memorial Gardens, Bluffton. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26. with a wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Hilton Head Humane Society, P.O. Box 21790, Hilton Head, S.C. 29925. Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is assisting the family with their arrangements. She was a leap year baby who enjoyed celebrating her birthday every four years. She leaves a son-in-law, Lad Donsbough.
