Michael Robert Gagne

Michael Robert Gagne, 59, of 70 Mohawk Forest Blvd. died Sunday morning at the emergency room of the North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken at home. Born in North Adams on July 17, 1947, son of the late Romeo D. Gagne and Irene Siere Gagne, he graduated from McCann Technical High School in 1964. A Vietnam War Navy veteran, he served on the USS Enterprise from 1964 until 1968. Following his military service, Mr. Gagne became an apprentice with the local carpenters union in North Adams. In 1972, he was named the local's "Apprentice of the Year." He then joined the Pittsfield Local Carpenters Union, which had merged with the North Adams union, where he worked until 1980. At that time, he went to work in maintenance at the Windsor Mill in North Adams, later becoming an instructor in maintenance. He then was the maintenance supervisor at Mohawk Forest in North Adams, where he was employed from 1991 until December 2005. Mr. Gagne was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was a lifetime member of the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW in North Adams. He enjoyed cabinet making, woodworking and fishing. He leaves his wife, the former Kathryn L. Morris, whom he married on Nov. 9, 1968, in Clarksburg. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Alicia L. Daniels of Florida; a son, Michael Robert Gagne of Monrovia, Md.; two brothers, Donald Gagne and Edward Gagne of North Adams; and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Michael Gagne, who died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, will be celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams, with the Rev. Edward King, rector, officiating. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS are today from 5 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to Feed the Children in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. He leaves five grandchildren, Meghan Gagne, Kristen Gagne, Alison Gagne, Samantha Daniels and Millard John Daniels; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and Albert Gagne.
