Joseph Thomas Cormier

Joseph Thomas Cormier, 76, of State Road died Saturday at home. Born in Waterbury, Conn., on May 22, 1930, son of Philip and Grace Leonard Cormier, he attended schools there and graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury. He moved to Great Barrington in 1992. An Army veteran of the Korean War, from March 21, 1951, to March 13, 1953, he served as an engineer with Company D, 103rd Division, in Germany and was honorably discharged as a corporal. After the service, he moved to Cheshire, Conn., where he was employed as a salesman for Cooper Tools for 20 years. He enjoyed woodworking and spent summers camping in Newport, R.I.. His wife, the former Marie DeLucia, whom he married Sept. 19, 1953, in Waterbury, died April 10, 1992. He leaves a daughter, Cheryl Thomson, with whom he resided, and two grandsons. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of Joseph Thomas Cormier will receive friends tomorrow, Sept. 19, from 2 to 4, and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held from 4 to 5, both at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME. The Rev. James Cronin will officiate. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 11 at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury, Conn. Following burial, the family invites people to their home on State Road to share in refreshments and memories starting at 2. Donations in memory of Joseph T. Cormier may be made to either Fairview Hospital or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He leaves his son-in-law, Jonathan B. Thomson; two grandsons, Sean and James Thomson, and several nieces and nephews, whom he cherished deeply.
