Edward F. Suthers, 80
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Edward Frederick Suthers, 80, of 93 Cleveland Ave., Apt. 34, a former a longtime resident of 46 Cross Road in Clarksburg, Sept. 20, 2006, at North Adams Commons.
Born in North Adams on Sept. 20, 1926, son of Frederick and Alice Dean Suthers, he moved to Clarksburg at an early age and attended schools there and North Adams, including Drury High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 31st Infantry Regiment as a private, first class. He was decorated with the Army of Occupation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Good Conduct and WWII Victory medals.
Mr. Suthers was employed for 47 years as a night shift supervisor at the former Sprague Electric Co., retiring in 1986.
He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was a member of Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW, and enjoyed gardening, sports and yard work. In his younger years, he was a member of the Royal Blue Pioneers Drum Corps and enjoyed speed skating.
He and his wife, the former Amy Hartman, were married April 28, 1951, in St. Francis' Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael Edward Suthers of Lisbon Falls, Maine; two daughters, Catherine L. Aparicio of Silver Spring, Md., and Brenda L. Bard of North Adams; a sister, Ruth Davis of North Adams, and five grandchildren, Daniel and Chad Suthers, Alexander and Edward Aparicio and Craig Bard.
A son-in-law, Bruce C. Bard, died in December 2005.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Edward Frederick Suthers, who died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis' Church, North Adams. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, are Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Memorial donations are suggested for the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
