Michael P. Coco Sr.

Michael P. Coco Sr., 93, of Railroad Street died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield. Born in Lee on Aug. 10, 1913, son of Peter and Spizia Esoldi Coco, he attended local schools. In 1966, he and the late Michael Fresia purchased Sheppard Restaurant in Dalton, changing its name to Michael's Restaurant and operating it until 1978. In the early 1960s, Mr. Coco worked as head chef at Monticello Restaurant in Framingham. He also owned and operated the Berk Lee Restaurant in Lee during the 1950s and worked at the former Smith Paper Co. during the 1940s. His first wife, the former Margaret Carty, died in 1964. His wife, the former Rose Boscardone, died in 1989. He leaves a son, Michael P. Coco Jr. of Pittsfield; a brother, Joseph J. Coco of Lee; three sisters, Helene Sweeney of Winsted, Conn., Nanette T. VanAlstyne of Sun City, Ariz., and Claire S. St. Peter of Pittsfield; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Michael P. Coco Sr., who died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, will be celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 10 at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. He leaves his loving grandchildren, Stephen and Valerie, and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Samuel. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dominick and Louis; and by four sisters, Lucy, Mary, Angelina and Carmella.
