Gary W. O'Brien

Gary W. O'Brien, 51, of 280 Summer St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 16, 1955, son of Elizabeth Salice O'Brien and the late William H. O'Brien, he was a 1972 graduate of Lee High School. Since 1991, Mr. O'Brien had been superintendent of St. Mary's Parish, overseeing operation of the church, cemetery and school. Before that, he was a mechanic at Butternut Ski Resort in Great Barrington and manager of Green Mead Farm in Richmond. Earlier, he and Peter Naventi operated the former Lee Farm, selling grain and produce. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Lee Fire Department and Lee Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife, the former Barbara A. Hayden, were married March 26, 1983. Besides his wife and mother, of Lee, he leaves a son, Timothy H. O'Brien of Lee; a daughter, Meghan H. O'Brien of Lee; and a brother, Robert M. O'Brien of Lee. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Gary W. O'Brien, who died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, will be Friday, Sept. 29, at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to the Gridiron Club, in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
