Robert Allen Bodine

Robert Allen Bodine, 57, of 338 Maple St. died Sunday at home after an eight-month battle with bladder cancer. Born in Lewes, Del., on April 26, 1949, and adopted at birth by Robert A. and Jane Williams Bodine, he grew up and attended schools in Wynnewood and Radnor, Pa., and earned his GED. He continued his education at Prince George's Community College in Landover, Md., from which he graduated with an associate's degree in liberal arts in 1990. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam war, where he was an air traffic controller attached to the Americal Division. He was employed by The Complete Strategist, a gaming store retail chain in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and Maryland. He retired in 1985 to be the primary caregiver for his three children. He moved to Hinsdale in August 2000. Mr. Bodine was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton. He also was a reader of history and science fiction, and was a member of The Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia, a medieval reenactment and educational organization in Maryland. He leaves his wife, the former Martha Montague, whom he married May 5, 1984, in Alexandria, Va. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Bodine, of Hinsdale; two sons, William Robert Bodine and James Kambaya Bodine, both of Hinsdale; and a sister, Nancy King Bodine of Chester Springs, Pa. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Service of Christian Burial for Robert A. Bodine, who died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, will be Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. Mary Schreiber. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. In consideration of family members with allergies, the omission of flowers is requested. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Bodine may be made to the Apollonian Players of Wahconah Regional High School or to St. Agnes' School Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226. Mr. Bodine is also survived by his in-laws, Dan and Zoe Montague of West Cummington; his sister-in-law, Melanie Carpenter of West Cummington; and his brother-in-law, Daniel Montague of Owls Head, Maine. He also leaves Daniel's wife, Carolyn, and his nieces and nephews, McKey and Robert Carpenter, Cregan, Elyse, Nathaniel and Brendan Montague, and Sevak Lafitte. His greatest joy was his family.
