John F. Stern

John F. Stern, 83, of 620 Laurel St., formerly of Heaton Court in Stockbridge, died Monday at the Laurel Lake Center in Lee, where he had resided for the past year. Born in New York City on June 6, 1923, son of Charles and Mary Ellen Malumphy Stern, he moved in 1928 to Stockbridge, where he was educated in the local schools. He was a 1941 graduate of the former Williams High School. A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Stern served with the 13th Airborne Division from 1942 until 1946 in France, Germany and Belgium. After the service, he worked at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, and from 1967 to 1987 as a machine tender at Rising Paper Co. in Housatonic. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Stockbridge, a member of the 13 Airborne Division Association, and a former member of the Stockbridge Golf Course. He leaves no immediate family. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Mass for John F. Stern, formerly of Stockbridge, who died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006, will be held at a later date at St. Joseph's Church in Stockbridge. KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee is in charge of arrangements.
