James E. Chenail

James E. Chenail, 63, of 70 Laurel Lane died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Adams on Feb. 26, 1943, son of Clifford and Mildred Langner Chenail, he was a 1961 graduate of the former Adams High School, where he played basketball and received the Lt. William C. Urqhart Memorial Trophy in 1961. He attended North Adams State College and Lowell Technical College. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Chenail was employed by Verizon as a cable splicer, retiring in 1998 with 29 years of service. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, fishing, traveling and watching Western movies on television. In 1984, he was inducted into the Adams High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He and his wife, the former Sheron Rondeau, were married May 19, 1972, in Great Barrington Methodist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two sisters, Jean Palano of Cheshire and Carol Beauregard of East Granby, Conn. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for James E. "Big Jim" Chenail, who died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, will be conducted Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 11 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. R. Ellen White, priest-in-charge at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Adams. Burial will follow in Sheffield Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 7 and Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 10 to 10:45 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy in Jim's name may be made to St. Mark's Church or to the Berkshire Humane Society, in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230-1815. He also leaves two brothers-in-law, Frank and Ken; two nephews, Glenn Grillon and Andrew Beauregard, and four godchildren, Joshua, Jeffrey, Justin and Jamie Ostrander. He enjoyed his dog, Abby.
