Gerald Donald Brassard

Gerald Donald Brassard, 68, of 1 Nelson St. died Wednesday evening at his home. Born in North Adams on Dec. 25, 1937, son of the late Gerald T. Brassard and Laura Scarbo Brassard Wilton, he attended schools in North Adams, including the former St. Joseph's High School. A Navy veteran, he served as a signalman on a destroyer. He was employed by the Hunter Machine Co. in North Adams and continued working at its successor company, Morrison Berkshire, until his retirement in 2002. Mr. Brassard was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church, North Adams. He was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club, and enjoyed bowling, chess and cribbage. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in Stamford, Vt. His first wife, the former Jane Kipp, whom he married on April 7, 1961, died on March 5, 1998. He leaves his wife, the former Eileen Hartman, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1998, in Our Lady of the Incarnation Church. Also, he leaves a son, Samuel C. Torres of Stamford, Vt.; four daughters, Gail A. Galusha of Watervliet, N.Y., Donna J. Thomann of Shelby, N.C., Miriam E. Serrano of North Adams, and Sharon L. Girard of Adams; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Jennings of Pownal, Vt., and Karen Brown of Naples, Fla.; two stepsons, Philip Larabee of Adams and Daniel Larabee of Williamstown; three sisters, Mary Cook of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., Nancy Bourell of Adams and Ann Wilton of North Adams; two brothers, George Brassard of North Adams and William Brassard of Grafton, N.Y.; his mother-in-law, Edith Mae Langevin of North Adams, with whom he lived; nine grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Heather Torres, on Feb. 23, 2005; and a stepson, James Larabee. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral to celebrate the life of Gerald Brassard, who died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, will be held Monday morning, Oct. 30, at 9 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, with Deacon Robert Moulton, permanent deacon, officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heather Torres Memorial Scholarship or to VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire in care of the funeral home, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247. He leaves a daughter-in-law, Nancy Torres; two sons-in-law, Bert Serrano and Gerald Girard; nine grandchildren, Adrianne Gigliotti, Stephanie Hartman, Nathan Hamilton, Robert Serrano, Laura Serrano, Natalie Serrano, Nathan Girard, Nicholas Girard and Benjamin Girard; three great-grandchildren, Megan Bray, Christian Brower and Wyatt Gigliotti; six step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Peter Wilton.
