William James Conklin

William James Conklin, 91, of East Main Street, Ashley Falls, died Saturday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Ashley Falls on Sept. 11, 1915, son of Harry E. and Anna Lyman Dunham Conklin, he attended the former Sheffield High School. Mr. Conklin operated the family dairy farm on Hewins Street. He enjoyed researching local history. His wife, the former Vera H. Huggins, died Dec. 16, 1999. They were married Oct. 31, 1936, in Ashley Falls. Following her death, he maintained the house and gardens, baked, cooked and continued his wife's tradition of making homemade donuts. He leaves a son, Harry Conklin of Sheffield; a daughter Gertrude Goodchild of Shelburne; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of William James Conklin will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, from 2 to 6 at his home on Main Street in Ashley Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheffield Historical Society or to the American Heart Association, both in care of FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Ali Winston; a son-in-law, Irwin Goodchild, and four grandchildren, William, Eric, Bruce and Sergio. He cherished spending time with his family and friends.
