Sister Mary Catherine Bona

Sister Mary Catherine Bona, 88, born Margaret Catherine Bona, a member of the Sisters of the Visitation, died Thursday at the monastery after a long illness. Born in Roselle Park, N.J., on Aug. 12, 1918, daughter of Stephen and Pauline Seaman Bona, she was raised in Bridgeport, Conn., and graduated from Stratford High School. She entered the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary in Riverdale, N.Y., on Feb. 28, 1942, where she lived for 37 years. Sister Bona worked as a volunteer with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur for 10 years in Fairfield and in East Hartford, both in Connecticut, for five years, and at the Julie House in Windsor, Conn., for three years, until retiring to Stella Maris Home in Towson, Md. She moved to Tyringham in October 2004, where she was employed in the infirmary until becoming ill. She leaves two brothers, Robert G. Bona of Harrisburg, Pa., and Stephen A. Bona of Loma Linda, Calif. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Catherine Bona, VHM, who died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 10:30 at the Monastery Church. Burial will follow in the Monastery Cemetery. Visiting hours at the monastery will be Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:15. Sister Mary Catherine Bona also leaves her cousins, Mildred Seaman Nagy of Bridgeport, Conn., and John Hamburger of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.
