Stella Orilla Graney Bastion

Stella Orilla Graney Bastion, 92, of 99 Middle Pownal Road, Pownal, Vt., a native of Williamstown, died Tuesday at Williamstown Commons. Born on Nov. 16, 1913, daughter of Lawrence and Orilla Thayer Palmer, she attended the former Williamstown High School. Mrs. Bastion was employed by Williams College in its buildings and grounds department, retiring in 1983. She also worked at North Adams Regional Hospital, at the former Adams Nursing Home and at the former Sprague Electric Co. She was a 74-year member of First Baptist Church in North Adams and a member of its choir. She enjoyed baking and traveling. Her first husband, Alvin Graney, died Dec. 13, 1935. They were married April 21, 1932. She and her husband, John Roger Bastion, were married Sept. 27, 1952. He died Dec. 23, 1952. She leaves 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, Eileen Noel Urquhart, died Oct. 21, 2004, and another daughter, Janet Barber Reynolds, died May 25, 2006. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral to celebrate the life of Stella Bastion, who died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, will be conducted tomorrow, Nov. 17, at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams, by the Rev. David Anderson, pastor of First Baptist Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Bastion also leaves 10 grandchildren, Cynthia Schubnel of LaCrosse, Wis., Glenn Noel of Union Hills, Ark., Keith Noel and Scott Barber, both of Pownal, Wayne Barber, Brenda Harpin and Gary Noel, all of North Adams, Mark Noel of the state of Washington, Lori Morris of Clarksburg and David Reynolds of Ledyard, Conn. A brother, Earl Palmer is deceased.
