Helen Lucille Ferris

Helen Lucille Ferris, 84, of Rose Manor, formerly of Town Hill Road, Middlefield, died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided since May 2. She had lived at Rose Manor for three years. Born in Freeport, Maine, on Oct. 31, 1922, daughter of Howard and Estelle Strout Moody, she was educated in Becket and Chester schools. Mrs. Ferris was employed by the former Statler Paper Mill in Becket as a packer. She also worked for Courtland Grinding in Chester and performed home care for the elderly. She was a member of the former Becket Grange and enjoyed bowling and playing bingo. Her husband, John W. "Walt" Ferris Jr., whom she married Sept. 14, 1940, died Nov. 30, 2002. She leaves a son, John W. Ferris III of Becket; two daughters, Joan E. Clemons of Pittsfield and Shirley E. Graves of Easthampton; a brother, Stacy Chapman of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Helen Lucille Ferris, who died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, will be today from 3 to 7 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. The funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Ferris may be made to Shriners' Children's Hospital or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, both in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton.
