Ferdinand S. Baczek

Ferdinand S. Baczek, 82, of 38 Burt St. died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Teresa Menard of Wakefield, where he had been visiting. Born in Adams on Aug. 12, 1924, son of Albert and Agnes Najduszek Baczek, he attended St. Stanislaus' Elementary School and graduated from the former Adams High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater and was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. Mr. Baczek worked in the ordnance division of General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church, where he served as an usher for 57 years and as a member of the Parish Council and Picnic Committee. He was also a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. His wife, the former Alice F. Cwalinski, whom he married Sept. 6, 1947, died April 28, 2005. Besides his daughter, he leaves two other daughters, Barbara Stevens of Destrehan, La., and Joanne Smith of Adams; a son, Steven Baczek of Reading; two brothers, Stanley Baczek of Bennington, Vt., and Edward Baczek of Chino, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ferdinand "Fred" Baczek will be Wednesday, Nov. 29, at noon from PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus' Church, Adams, at 12:30 celebrated by the Rev. Gary M. Dailey, director of vocations for the Diocese of Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11 to noon at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or to the Adams Ambulance Service, both through the funeral home. He also leaves a son-in-law, Charles; a daughter-in-law, Holly; eight grandchildren, Danielle and Joshua Menard, Alexandra, Nicole and Steven Baczek, and Sarah and Brandon Stevens, and Melissa Hof; four great-grandchildren, Skylar, Remy, Caitlin and Madison and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Baczek, and by three sisters, Isabelle Skubel, Anna Haskell and Stella Murphy.
