Susan Wheeler

Susan Wheeler, 51, of 50 Olsen Road died Tuesday morning at her home, where she had lived for the past 25 years. Born in Pittsfield on March 11, 1955, daughter of the late James Sr. and Bertha Hatch Truden, she attended Mount Greylock Regional High School. Primarily a homemaker, she had at one time worked as a sales associate at The Gap, had a booth at the Vermont Antique Barn, the Bradley Farm and was a private chef. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the Lanesborough Historical Society, the Lanesborough Scholarship Fund which she helped support through plant sales and was, at one time, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. Children were her greatest love. She leaves her husband, George Thomas "Tommy" Wheeler, whom she married on Dec. 20, 1971. Besides her husband, she is survived by her mother; two sons, Christopher Wheeler of Pittsfield and Andrew Wheeler of Lanesborough; a daughter, Aimee Casey of Cheshire; two brothers, James F. Truden, Jr. of Lee and Michael J. Truden of Pittsfield; four sisters, Kathleen L. Brassard of Palmetto, Fla., Mary E. Truden of Bradenton, Fla., Joanne M. Oggiani of Great Barrington and Jennifer Jennings of Pownal, Vt.; and a grandson. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Susan Frances Wheeler, who died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor of North American Martyrs Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Wheeler may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Susan, who is remembered for her whacky sense of humor that made all who know her laugh, will be lovingly missed by her son-in-law, Todd Casey; her grandson, Conroy F. Casey; her mother-in-law, Margarethe Wheeler, brothers-in-law, Richard Brassard and Paul "PJ" Jennings, Scott Wheeler and Eric Wheeler; sisters-in-law, Linda (Mrs. James) Truden and Martha Brown; many nieces and nephews with whom she loved to play; and her two kitty cats, Grace and Foofee.
