Robert James Reardon

Robert James Reardon, 79, of 16 Birchwood Terrace died Friday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born in North Adams on Jan. 5, 1927, son of Charles and Beatrice Marran Reardon, he was a 1944 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School and a member of the first graduating class of the Williams College School of Banking in 1958. He also completed courses at the American Institute of Banking. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Reardon began his banking career in the bookkeeping department of the former North Adams Trust Co. After the bank merged with Berkshire Bank & Trust, he was elected manager of the installment loan department. He was later appointed assistant treasurer. In 1970, he was promoted to assistant vice president and platform officer in the bank's North Adams office. In 1972, he was appointed manager of the Adams office. He was elected assistant vice president and business development officer for Northern Berkshire in 1976, and in 1977, was promoted to assistant vice president and assistant manager of Berkshire Bank & Trust Co.'s North Adams office. He retired in 1989. Following his retirement, he was employed by the city as the parking clerk. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. Mr. Reardon was a member and past director of the Northern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the board of the Economic Development Commission and the board of directors of the Northern Berkshire United Way, serving on the latter's allocating committee for many years. He was a corporator of North Adams Regional Hospital, past director of the North Adams Taxpayers Association, and a member of the North Adams and Adams Lions clubs for many years. He was also a longtime member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion. He enjoyed skiing, bowling and playing golf and was a longtime member of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown and a past member of the North Adams Country Club. He and his first wife, the former Ann Kearns, were married Aug. 5, 1950. She died Oct. 28, 1978. He and his wife, the former Linda Leonard Brazeau, were married Nov. 3, 1979, in North Adams. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Michael Reardon and Peter Reardon, both of Southampton, and Jonathan Reardon, a seminarian, of Rome; a stepson, David Brazeau of North Adams; a stepdaughter, Jodie Pilot of North Adams; and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert Reardon will be tomorrow, Dec. 19, at 9:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, CENTRAL CHAPEL, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Francis' Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7. Donations may be made to Shriners' Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home. He also leaves two daughters-in-law, Julie and Patricia; a stepson-in-law, James; a stepdaughter-in-law, Heidi; eight grandchildren, Meaghan, Emily, Caitlyn and Nolan Reardon of Southampton, and Molly Wojnicki, and Caleb, Joshua and Timothy Brazeau, all of North Adams. A brother, Charles Reardon, died in 2002. A devoted family man, he truly loved his eight grandchildren and had a great sense of humor.
