Joan M. Ross

Joan M. Ross, 50, of 286 Main St., died at home Wednesday after a long battle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield on April 28, 1956, daughter of Harry and Martha Shock Freshler, she was a 1974 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. Mrs. Ross worked at K-Mart for 22 years before it closed; she was then employed by Country Curtains for 10 years before she became ill. She was a communicant of the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale. Mrs. Ross married Harold "Hal" W. Ross Jr. on Aug. 20, 1988. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Peter L. Ross, at home in Hinsdale; her parents, Harry and Martha Freshler of Hinsdale; and two brothers, Donald Freshler of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Lawrence Freshler of Spokane, Wash. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Mrs. Ross will be held Saturday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Hinsdale, with the Rev. Carolyn Peck officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery. Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Following services, the family invites all to fellowship in the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Jimmy Fund, in care of BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226, who is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ross also leaves three step-children and seven step-grandchildren.
