Anne Marie Elisabeth Makuc

Anne Marie Elisabeth Makuc, 68, of Main Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 29, 1938, daughter of Fritz A.H. and Elsie Schneider Leuchs, she graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn in 1955. She attended Pembroke College and received her bachelor's degree from Brown University in 1959. She also attended Westfield State College, taking courses in library science, and attained professional certification from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a librarian. Mrs. Makuc was an elected trustee of the Monterey Library from 1965 to 2005. She was librarian from 1978 to 2005. She also served the Town of Monterey in various other capacities, including as an elected official on the Cemetery Commission and editor of the town's 125th anniversary book. She was a communicant and one of the first Eucharistic Ministers of Our Lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Church in Sheffield. She was also the parish secretary for more than 15 years. She volunteered for the Marians of the Immaculate Conception for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. Her husband, Henry J. Makuc, whom she married on April 15, 1961, in Stockbridge, is deceased. She leaves five sons, Mark and John Makuc, both of Monterey, James Makuc of Boylston, Christopher Makuc of Rockville, Md., and Paul Makuc of Litchfield, Conn.; two daughters, Anne Marie Enoch of Monterey and Marta Starczewski of Great Barrington; and 13 grandchildren. A daughter, Mary Elisabeth, and a son, Stephen Andrew, are deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Anne Marie Makuc, who died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield by the Rev. John Lis. Burial will follow in Corashire Cemetery in Monterey. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Donations in her memory may be made to the Monterey Library or the Marians of the Immaculate Conception through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mrs. Makuc also leaves five daughters-in-law, Mary, Cynthia, Donna, Kathleen and Jaime; two sons-in-law, Stephen and Gabriel; and 13 grandchildren, Gabriella, Joseph Victor, Justin, Marya, Nadia, Jacob, Madeleine, Grace, Catherine, Sarah, Matthew, Elisabeth and Joseph Henry. She was predeceased by her brother, Fred Leuchs, who died Oct. 3, 1999, and her sister, Elisabeth Marie Tucker, who died in November 2001.
