James Birch Hadley

James Birch Hadley, 90, of 85 Eagle St. died Sunday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on July 28, 1916, son of G. Clarence and Christine Birch Hadley, he resided in the area most of his life and attended local schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 10th Mountain Division as a ski trooper. Mr. Hadley retired 25 years ago from the office of the former Hunter Machine Co. An skier all his life, he remained active in the 10th Mountain New England Alumni Association. He spent 50 years as a volunteer member of the National Ski Patrol and was very proud of his listing as No. 472 in his national organization. His first wife, the former Frances Gilrain, died in April 1985. He leaves his wife, the former Norma Fierra of Williamstown; a son, Craig Hadley of Adams; a daughter, Linda Fallon of Farmington, Conn., and Vero Beach, Fla.; two grandsons; and two great-granchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- At the request of Mr. Hadley, who died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, there will be no calling hours or services. AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements. Prior to his retirement, he combined his love of skiing with his interest in photography. He photographed and filmed virtually every ski resort he visited and these photos have become a priceless history of the early days of skiing. Mr. Hadley also leaves two grandsons, Scott Fallon of Bristol Conn., and Sean Fallon and his wife Geri of West Simsbury, Conn.; two great-grandchildren, William and Grace Fallon of West Simsbury, Conn.; his son's partner, Charlotte Avery; and a son-in-law, Robert.
