Elizabeth P. Markham

Elizabeth P. Markham, 80, formerly of Home Road, died Saturday at Geer Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Canaan, Conn., where she had resided for 10 years. Born in Waltham on Sept. 22, 1926, daughter of Harold P. and Laura Hadsell Bailey Boudrot, she attended schools there. She moved to Sheffield in the mid-1940s. Mrs. Markham was employed by Becton, Dickenson & Co. in Canaan until becoming disabled in 1980. Before that, she was employed by the former Wash n' Dry, also in Canaan, for more than 15 years until its closing. After retiring, she took on the full-time job of caring for her mother at home for more than 10 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church. She was a former emergency medical technician and past member of the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad. She and her husband, John F. Markham Jr., were married in Sheffield on May 30, 1944. He died in April 1980. She leaves a daughter, Donna Mallory of Canaan; two sons, Barry Markham of Bangor, Maine, and Louis Markham of Gardner; and three grandsons. Two sons, John F. Markham III and James C. Markham, are deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Elizabeth P. "Betty" Markham, who died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield by the Rev. John Lis. Burial will follow in Sheffield Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Betty was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She always had a beautiful smile and gentle manner. The family would like to express its sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for its years of loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elizabeth Tierney Scholarship Fund at Geer Nursing & Rehabilitation Center or the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Betty also leaves a son-in-law, Bill; her son Barry's companion, Laura; and three grandsons, Tyson, Adam and Eric. A brother, Robert Boudrot, and a sister, Jaye Copperinger, are deceased.
