Loretta MacDonald

Loretta MacDonald, 79, of 18 Summit Ave. died yesterday at the home of her sister, Gloria Charron of 855 Massachusetts Ave., following a one-year battle with cancer. Born in North Adams on Sept. 24, 1927, daughter of Michael and Fiorina Pellegrino Lopardo, she graduated from Drury High School in 1945. She also graduated from the former Bliss Business College and attended the Jules Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Conn., now part of the University of Hartford. Mrs. MacDonald was employed for more than 30 years by the former Sprague Electric Co. and was a purchasing agent at the time of her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, where she was a soloist for weddings and funerals and a member of its former choir. She was a member of the Sprague Management and Quarter Century clubs and of the Sprague Retirees. She enjoyed attending concerts at Tanglewood and at Williams College. She and her husband, Ralph Albert MacDonald, who died Dec. 6, 1986, were married in St. Anthony's Church on July 7, 1979. Besides her sister, she leaves another sister, Elvira Garofalo of Cape Canaveral, Fla. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Loretta MacDonald, who died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, will be Wednesday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPEL, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Anthony's Church, 64 Marshall St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 6. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are suggested for the Eileen Barrett Cancer Fund through the funeral home. Mrs. MacDonald also leaves nine nieces and nephews, Richard G. Charron Jr. of North Adams, Janet Chapman of Hubbardston, Patricia Charron of Merritt Island, Fla., Barbara Charron of Orlando, Fla., Robert Garofalo of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Michael, William and Adam Smith and Amy Watson, all of Ohio; and grandnieces and grandnephews, Alex and Chris Charron of North Adams; and Jason Kyle of Orlando. A brother, Mario Lopardo, and three sisters, Inez Lopardo, Yolanda Allen and Venice Smith, are deceased. Her family enjoyed her cooking abilities and great sense of humor.
