George D. Mason

George D. Mason, 58, of 590 South Main St., died yesterday at home. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 5, 1949, son of George and Barbara Cochrane Mason, he moved to Southwick as a child and attended schools there. He was a 1969 graduate of Westfield Vocational High School, and lived in Springfield from 1990 to 2001. He moved to Sheffield in 2002. He was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of corporal. He was also a JAG officer for the Marine Corps League in Canaan, Conn. Mr. Mason was employed by the Wyantenuck Country Club as a general mechanic at the time of his death. He had been employed there since 2003. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife, the former Norma Hoskeer, were married July 14, 2001. Besides his wife, of Pittsfield, and parents, of Southwick, he leaves a son, Chad Mason of Stafford Springs, Conn.; a stepson, Michael Patrick Agar of Sheffield; two stepdaughters, Ginger Zani of Ashley Falls and Michelle Paul of Sheffield; four brothers, Bruce Mason of Southwick, Howard and Jeffrey Mason, both of South Carolina and Francis Mason of Granville; two sisters, Lisa Pentz of Agawam and Judy Galloni of Springfield; and five grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of George D. Mason, who died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, will receive friends on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy in George's memory may be made to the Marine Corps Legion of Canaan, Conn., in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mr. Mason also leaves five grandchildren, Tristan, Johnathan and Aleksa Mason, Ryan Zani and Christopher Paul. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
