Julius "Red" Czaja

Julius "Red" Czaja, 86, a native of North Adams, died Sunday at Sunrise Assisted Living House in Columbia, Md., where he had resided for three years. Born at home on Beaver Street on March 31, 1920, son of John and Veronica Ramocki Czaja, he graduated in1938 from the former Adams High School, where he was active in athletics. He also graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. A Coast Guard veteran of World War II, he was an aviation machinist mate first class and served on the LST 793. He was honorably discharged with six years' of service. Mr. Czaja was employed by Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, N.Y., for 15 years. He and his wife, the former Helen Serednicky of Liverpool, N.Y., were married more than 50 years. She died March 21, 2000. He leaves a daughter, Carol Czaja of Ellicott City, Md., with whom he resided for three years before moving to the nursing facility; a son, Edward Czaja of Victor, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Following cremation, an inurnment service for Julius "Red" Czaja, who died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, will be observed at the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams at a date to be announced. MCBRIDE FUNERAL SERVICE OF ADAMS is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Czaja also leaves his daughter-in-law, Sue Czaja, and two grandchildren, James Czaja of San Francisco and Jaclyn Czaja of Ann Arbor, Mich.
