Dorothy J. Tatro

Dorothy J. Tatro, 92, of Sandisfield Road, died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in West Haven, Conn., on Aug. 9, 1914, daughter of Walter Galaske Sr. and Helen Bieth Galaske, she attended schools there. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Tatro worked at one time at Sandisfield Library. During World War II, she worked in a plane factory in Connecticut. She was a member and past treasurer of the Senior Citizens. She collected coins, stamps and antiques and enjoyed reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. She and her husband, Lawrence L. Tatro, were married Nov. 22, 1934, in New Haven, Conn. They moved to Sandisfield in 1956. Mr. Tatro died May 1, 1998. She leaves two daughters, Patricia Winterberg of Toms River, N.J., and Jeannie McIntyre of Colonia, N.J.; two sons, Peter Tatro of Mystic Isle, N.J., and Joseph Tatro of South Egremont; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dorothy J. Tatro, who died Feb. 6, 2007, will be Saturday, at 10 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Burial will follow in Sandisfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to Fairview Hospital, in care of the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mrs. Tatro always looked forward to frequent trips to the Senior Center in Great Barrington. Above all, she cherished her family. She was the matriarch of the family, which covered five generations. She was extremely proud, having watched her four children grow, work and raise their families. She was glad to see them all starting their new chapter, retirement. She also leaves her grandchildren,James, David, Jill, Laura, Lawrence, Paul, Christopher and Coleen; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kristy, Allison, Kaitlyn, Eric, Julia, Erin, Alex, Alyssa, John and Ryan; and three great-great-grandchildren, David, Shane and Jessica.
