Richard M. Gallagher

Richard M. Gallagher, 49, of Cottage Street, in died Saturday at Fairview Hospital. Born in Ludlow on Aug. 31, 1957, son of Clayton Edward and Elizabeth Joann Wilson Gallagher, he attended Kennedy Junior High School and Putnam Junior High School. He moved to Great Barrington in the mid-1970s. Mr. Gallagher was employed by Sheffield Plastics for more than 15 years, retiring in 2002 due to a disability. Prior to working at Sheffield Plastics he worked at the former Wyman Lumbar Mill. A sportsman, he was a member of the National Rifle Association. He married the former Jenifer Smith on March 19, 1983. Besides his wife; he leaves a son, Rory Gallagher of New Canaan, Conn.; a daughter, Messina "Missy" Gallagher at home; four sisters, Alice Testa and Pamela Stalker, both of Springfield, Diana Schmuck of Agawam and Barbara Gallagher of Ludlow; four brothers, Roger, Daniel and Steven Gallagher, all of Springfield and Edward Gallagher of Belchertown. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service celebrating the life of Richard M. Gallagher, who died Saturday, March 3, 2007, will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends on Saturday from noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He was predeceased by a brother, Russell Gallagher.
