Heide Jill Curtis

Heide Jill Curtis, 48, of Laurel Street, died Friday at home. Before moving to Lee in October 2005, she lived on Elm Street in Pittsfield for more than 20 years. Born in Sharon, Conn., on Aug. 13, 1958, daughter of Willard R. and Janet Markham Curtis, she attended the former Ashley Falls School and Mount Everett Regional School in Sheffield. Miss Curtis was employed by Blue Q in Pittsfield, retiring earlier this year. She also worked for many years at The Ponds at Foxhollow. She enjoyed crafts, especially knitting and bead work, and music and dancing. She participated in the Special Olympics for many years and volunteered at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Pittsfield. Besides her mother, of Ashley Falls, and her father, of Canaan, Conn., she leaves a sister, Holly Gingras Smith of Saugerties, N.Y.; and two brothers, Willard A. Curtis of Pittsfield and Trevor Curtis of Ashley Falls. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A service celebrating the life of Heide Curtis, who died Friday, April 6, 2007, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheffield Library or the American Legion in Sheffield through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Heide loved animals, especially cats, and cherished babies. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Minnie L. Markham, and her paternal grandmother, Laura Coon Curtis. She also leaves a brother-in-law, Judson Smith Sr.; five nephews; and her very special friend of many years, Thomas "Bubba" Coutherut.
