Byron David "Dusty" Johnson

Byron David "Dusty" Johnson, 72, of 23 Grove St., died Friday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Aug. 13, 1934, son of George and Carrie Mahar Johnson, he attended local schools, graduating from the former Adams High School in 1953. Mr. Johnson was employed by Specialty Minerals Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1996. Before that, he had worked at the former Arnold Print Works and at Excelsior Printing in North Adams. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where he served as a vestryman and member of the choir, as well as a volunteer for many church activities. He had served for several years with Company M of the Massachusetts National Guard, and was a volunteer driver for the Road to Recovery program of the American Cancer Society. He also enjoyed reading and hunting. He and his wife, the former Earline E. Looman, were married on May 11, 1957. Besides his wife of 50 years, he leaves a son, David Johnson of Adams; two daughters, Judy Dumas of Severn, Md., and Ann Johnson of Adams; two sisters, Dorothy Howcroft of Williamstown and Anna Johnson of Seattle; five grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. A son, Jeffrey E. Johnson, died Feb. 3, 1979. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Byron D. "Dusty" Johnson, who died Friday, April 13, 2007, will be held Wednesday, April 18, at noon from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a requiem Eucharist at 1 p.m. in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. R. Ellen White, priest-in-charge. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson also leaves a daughter-in-law, Jill; a son-in-law, Gary; five grandchildren, John Crosby, Steven Wandrei, Kayleigh Wandrei, Kimberly Dumas and Alicia Johnson; three step-grandchildren, Marie LaPointe and James and Timothy Dumas; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother, George Johnson.
