Elizabeth Dennis

Elizabeth Dennis, 90, of Chapel Street, died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Ms. Dennis served as head librarian of Lee Library from 1942 to 1987. In 1978, the Betty Dennis Children's Room was named in her honor. Born in Lee on Feb. 16, 1917, daughter of Frank C. and Luella Griswold Dennis, she was a 1935 graduate of Lee High School. She took many courses offered by the state and took a class at the University of New Hampshire. Ms. Dennis began working at the library after high school, starting her career as an assistant librarian. She was a lifelong member of St. George's Episcopal Church and served in its vestry, the choir, the Episcopal Church Women and the Altar Guild. She leaves six cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Elizabeth "Betty" Dennis, who died Friday, May 4, 2007, leaves six cousins, Charlotte Davis, Lorraine Pease, Anna Nicke, Katrina Nicke Neefus, and Alex and Katie Neefus, and her longtime friends, Tom, Sandy, Brian and Alicia Garrity, and their relatives, all of whom she considered family. Two sisters, Alice and Grace Dennis, are deceased. The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee by the Rev. Donna Trebilcox, rector. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at KELLY FUNERAL HOME. Friends wishing may make donations in her memory to the Betty Dennis Children's Room at Lee Library or to St. George's Episcopal Church, in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
