Henry Blanchet

Henry Blanchet, 91, of 28 Prospect St., died Thursday at home. Born in Youngsville, La., on July 15, 1915, son of Kossuth and Rose LaBlanc Blanchet, he was a 1933 graduate of Lafayette (La.) High School and a 1941 graduate of Louisiana State University. He lived in Litchfield, Conn., and in Egremont before moving to Great Barrington in 1983. During World War II, he worked for the Metal Retrieve Department for nickel production in Cuba. Mr. Blanchet opened Anlin Co. in Houston in 1955. He later opened branches in New Jersey and Illinois. In the 1940s, he converted hydrogen sulfide to liquid sulfur and held accounts with Standard Oil and Shell Oil. He retired in 1962. He also worked for Freeport Sulphur Co. as an engineer. He enjoyed gardening and taking photographs. His wife, the former Joan Swift, died April 7, 1985. He leaves a son, Harper Blanchet of Warren, Vt.; a daughter, Suzanne Chard of Portland, Maine; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Henry Blanchet, who died Thursday, May 10, 2007, will be private. There will be no calling hours. BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, is in charge of arrangements. Donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01247. Mr. Blanchet also leaves three grandchildren, Joanne Black, and Stephen and Thomas Chard; six great-grandchildren, and two caregivers, Marji Keefner West and Howard Steinberg, both of Great Barrington.
