Craig A. Paul Sr.

Craig A. Paul Sr., 54, of 533A Main St. died Sunday at home after a long illness. Born in Pownal, Vt., on Oct. 10, 1952, son of the late George A. Paul Sr. and Helen Owens Paul, he moved to the Berkshires at the age of 5 and attended Pittsfield and Lanesborough schools, and Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown. Mr. Paul worked as a self-employed landscape architect throughout Berkshire County. He retired in 2003 because of failing health. Previously, he was assistant caretaker of Eisner Camp. He also worked at the former Sheaffer Eaton and at Eaton's Nascon Division on West Housatonic Street. He also owned and operated Paul's Interior Painting from the 1970s until moving to Great Barrington in 1987. He was a New York Yankees fan and enjoyed football, hunting, fishing and camping. He and his wife, the former Diane "DeDe" Davis, were married Dec. 11, 1971, in Pittsfield. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Jason C. Paul, Craig A. "Chip" Paul Jr. and William J. Paul, all of Great Barrington; and a sister, Judith A. Hill of Norfolk, Va. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Craig A. Paul Sr., who died Sunday, May 27, 2007, will be conducted Thursday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Charles Young. Burial will follow in Pelton Brook Cemetery, Great Barrington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. and requests that, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Craig's memory by made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. During his retirement, Mr. Paul pursued his lifelong passion for the outdoors by expanding and maintaining his gardens and doing landscaping projects with his wife and son. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Michelle Paul; a grandson, Christopher Patrick Paul; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Ronald, George Jr. "Skip," Robert and Richard Paul; and a sister, Janna K. Burdick.
