Orville G. Heath, Jr.

Orville G. Heath, Jr., 87, of Pine Road and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died June 23, at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born May 29, 1920, in Monterey, he was the son of Orville Gregory and Emma E. Stapleton Heath. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Searles High School in Great Barrington. He later moved to Chicopee and spent summers in a cottage on Lake Buel. He retired to Myrtle Beach. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Heath enlisted in the Navy on July 24, 1945. He received the World War II Victory Medal before being honorably discharged on June 1, 1946. He worked at Savage Arms in Westfield until retiring on May 31, 1980. He married the former Doris Elaine Kellogg, on Feb. 13, 1942, in Great Barrington. She died July 21, 2006. Mr. Heath was a Red Sox fan, enjoyed golfing, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his son, Douglas G. Heath of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service celebrating the lives of both Orville G. Heath, Jr., who died June 23, 2007, and his wife, Elaine Kellogg Heath, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. There will be no calling hours. Donations in memory of Orville and Elaine Health may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mr. Heath also leaves three grandchildren, Douglas Heath, Stephen Heath and Kristen Lee.
