Robert S. Ellsworth

Robert S. Ellsworth, 82, of 1124 Bancroft Road, died yesterday at home. Born in Becket on May 15, 1925, son of Richard and Charlotte Frisbie Ellsworth, he was educated in local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Chester High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1945, and was discharged as a staff sergeant. After the service, he attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and graduated in 1951. Mr. Ellsworth was employed by Kimberly Clark Corp. in Lee as a boiler engineer, retiring in 1983. From 1963 to 1968, he lived in Enfield, Conn., where he worked at Pratt & Whitney. At one time, he owned and operated a dairy farm in Becket, drove a school bus for the town and worked at the Bancroft Paper Mill. He was a member of VFW Post No. 11054. His wife, the former Flora Rock, whom he married Nov. 24, 1949, died in 2001. Mr. Ellsworth leaves three sons, Robert C. Ellsworth of Lake Placid, Fla., Raymond A. Ellsworth of Sunderland and Ronald J. Ellsworth of Becket; a sister, Elizabeth Furlong of Dalton; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Robert S. Ellsworth, who died Monday, July 23, 2007, will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee by the Rev. Charles F. Young, hospice chaplin. Burial will follow in Becket Center Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. He leaves his grandchildren, Heather, James, Crystal, Richard and Nathan. He was predeceased by another brother, Richard Ellsworth.
