Dionisia A. "Daisy" Casey

Dionisia A. "Daisy" Casey, 85, of 280 Maple St., died Monday at the summer home of her daughter, Kathleen Casey, of South Street in East Otis. Born in Adams on July 13, 1922, daughter of John and Mary Sheshla Gajda, she was a graduate of the former Adams High School. Mrs. Casey and her husband owned and operated Casey's Package and Variety from 1969 to 1989, when they sold the business. She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church in Dalton and a former longtime communicant of St. Patrick's Church, and a member of their rosary sodalities. She was also a member of the Hinsdale Lions Club and the daughters of Isabella, a co-chairman of the Hinsdale Council on Aging and a volunteer for Elder Services of Berkshire County, where she was named volunteer of the year twice. She enjoyed baking apple pies and crocheting. Her husband, John M. Casey Sr., whom she married Sept. 12, 1942, died July 12, 1993. Besides her daughter, who is also of St. Leonard, Md., she leaves four sons, Patrick J. Casey of Peru, David F. Casey of Hinsdale, Timothy J. Casey of Nashville, Tenn., and Joe P. Casey of New York City; another daughter, Mary Bowers of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Joseph Gajda of Cheshire; two sisters, Millie Sliwa and Josephine Gajda, both of Adams; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, John M. Casey Jr. and Michael J. Casey. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Dionisia A. "Daisy" Casey, who died July 23, 2007, will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will be at a later date in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Hinsdale Lions Club in care of the funeral home.
