Stasia Nowobilski

Stasia Nowobilski, 91, of New Britian, Conn., died Tuesday after a long illness at Brittany Farms Health Center in New Britian. Born in Housatonic on March 1, 1916, she was the daughter of Joseph and Victoria Ptak Moszkiewicz. She was employed as a housekeeper at Holy Cross Church and also at Fafnir Bearing for several years, both in New Britian, Conn. Mrs. Nowobilski enjoyed watching basketball, especially the University of Connecticut, NASCAR and the PGA Tour. She had hosted several traditional Polish dinners for the Greater Hartford Open tour players. She was also a supporter of the Connecticut Section PGA, and hosted an annual celebrity amateur golf tournament in memory of her husband, Harry Nowobilski. Mrs. Nowobilski and her late husband were married 61 years. Mrs. Nowobilski lived in Housatonic for more than 30 years when then moved to New Britain, Conn., where she and her husband were married at Holy Cross Church in 1941. She leaves a daughter, Barbara Misko of New Britain, Conn.; a son, John Nowobilski of Hebron, Conn.; a sister, Helen Smigel of New Britian, Conn.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Stasia Nowobilski, who died Aug. 14, 2007, will be held Saturday at 9:45 a.m. from BURRITT FUNERAL HOME, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, Conn., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain, Conn. Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations in Stasia's memory may be made to Holy Cross Church Foundation, 31 Biruta St., New Britain, CT 06053. Her favorite NASCAR driver was Jeff Gordon, she was also a fan of Tiger Woods, Fuzzy Zoeller and former GHO Champion Bill Kratzert. She watched NASCAR weekly, in fact, at the age of 72, she and her husband spent the entire evening in the infield for the 24 hours of Daytona. The Nowobilski and Misko family extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of Brittany Farms, especially the staff at Station 4, for the compassionate and loving care given to Stasia. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Nowobilski; her grandchildren, Bill Misko and his wife, Becky, of Newington, Conn., Michael Misko and his wife, Linda, of Ormond Beach, Fla., Ryan Nowobilski of Revere, and Mary-Kate Nowobilski of New Britain; two great-grandsons, Joseph and Paul Misko; a brother-in-law, Harry Smigel of New Britain.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Jerry Misko; her sister, Sophie; and two brothers, Chet and Stanley Ptak.
