Kathleen B. Thompson

Kathleen B. Thompson, 100, died Tuesday at Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had resided for two months. She lived at Heaton Court in Stockbridge for 10 years and, before that, was a longtime resident of South Street in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 1, 1907, daughter of Bernard and Lillian Yeats Boland, she graduated from St. Joseph's High School and received an associate degree from Our Lady of the Elms College. In 1960, she received her bachelor's degree from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Mrs. Thompson was employed as a first-grade teacher at Stockbridge Plain School and in the Pittsfield Public School System. She retired in 1968 with 30 years of service. She was a former member of the Elms' Alumnae, and the Pittsfield and Massachusetts teachers' associations. Her husband, Harry A. Thompson, whom she married Aug. 23, 1937, died in 1953. She leaves a son, George B. "Tommy" Thompson of Southern Pines, N.C.; a daughter, Wendy T. Flynn of Stockbridge; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Kathleen B. Thompson, who died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington by the Rev. William Murphy, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to St. Peter's Building Restoration Fund, both in care of the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Above all, Mrs. Thompson will be remembered for her incredible faith and dedication to her family. She leaves her grandchildren, Sean Flynn of Great Barrington, Katie Toffey of Lexington, Ky., Julie Blank of Whispering Pines, N.C., Tommy Thompson of Charlotte, N.C., Regina Maldonado of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Sara Campano of Durango, Colo.
