Ignatius Joseph "Ike" Wojtaszek Jr.

Ignatius Joseph "Ike" Wojtaszek Jr., 69, of 357 Lanseborough Road died Thursday at home after a long illness. He was Cheshire town treasurer for 36 years, retiring May 7. Born in Adams on May 19, 1938, son of Ignatius J. and Anna Trzpis Wojtaszek, he was a 1957 graduate of the former Adams High School and a graduate of the former Berkshire Business College. In 1967, he completed NABAC summer banking and audit control courses at the University of Wisconsin and, in 2006, received his treasurer certification after completing courses at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. An auditor, Mr. Wojtaszek was employed by the former First Agricultural Bank, MultiBank and Fleet for a total of 26 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where he served on the parish and finance councils, and as an usher and funeral acolyte. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed Christmas decorating, gardening and vacationing on Cape Cod. He and his wife, the former Diane A. Castronova, celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary Sept. 2. They were married at Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, John J. Wojtaszek of Cheshire, and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ignatius J. "Ike" Wojtaszek, who died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2007, will be Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. at DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME on North Street in Cheshire. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire. Mr. Wojtaszek, "Dziadziu" to his granddaughter, Breanna, whom he loved dearly, also leaves his daughter-in-law, Deanna Smith Wojtaszek; his father- and mother-in-law, Anthony J. and Pauline Germanowski Castronova of Pittsfield; three brothers-in-law, Anthony J. Castronova III, Robert LeBlanc and Edward Maloney, all of Pittsfield; four sisters-in-law, Jane Castronova, Carolyn LeBlanc and Katherine Maloney, all of Pittsfield, and Janet Baird of Danbury, N.H.; his godmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Godek of Adams; his aunt, Roma Trzpis of Adams; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
