Clare Nash Brown

Clare Nash Brown, 84, of 57 Quincy St., died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Aug. 11, 1923, daughter of Stuart N. and Mabel Goury Schouler, she attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1941. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1945. Mrs. Brown served with the WAVES during World War II. She was employed by North Adams Public Library as an assistant librarian. Before that, she worked as assistant to the dean of freshman at Williams College in Williamstown and at one time worked at The Times Herald, a newspaper in Philadelphia. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Frank R. Stiles American Legion Post, the Republican City Committee, and the Berkshire Humane Society. Mrs. Brown leaves a son, Patrick Barr Brown of North Yorkshire, England, and two grandsons. FUNERAL NOTICE -- At the request of Clare Nash Brown, who died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, there will be no funeral. Memorial donations may be made to the North Adams Public Library or to the Berkshire Humane Society through the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247. Mrs. Brown leaves her grandsons, Gregory Lawrence Brown and Paul Robert Brown, both of North Yorkshire, England; and several cousins.
