Ruth Ellen Burton, 88, of 207 Lake Shore Drive, died Friday at home following a long illness. Born in New Bremen, N.Y., on March 12, 1919, daughter of William and Florence Jones Brown, she attended schools in Lyons Falls, N.Y., and graduated from the LeBarron Hairdressing Academy at the former England's department store in Pittsfield. Mrs. Burton owned and operated the former Ruth's Beauty Parlor in Pittsfield for 35 years, retiring in 2001. She enjoyed bowling. She and her husband, Ralph V. Burton, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary April 9. Besides her husband, she leaves two half-brothers, William J. Brown of Lowville, N.Y., and Raymond Brown of Watertown, N.Y., and two half-sisters, Eleanor Hanno of Lowville, N.Y., and Stella Ziegler of Booneville, N.Y. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Ruth Ellen Barton, who died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, N.Y., by the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, P.O.
