Leo H. Wells Jr.

Leo H. Wells Jr., 77, of Bernard Gibbons Drive, Housatonic, a former longtime resident of Francis Avenue, died Thursday at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where he had resided the past month. Born in Great Barrington on March 17, 1930, son of Leo H. Wells Sr. and Mary Beurham Wells, he graduated from the former Searles High School in 1949. Mr. Wells was employed by Gorham & Norton's market for 38 years, retiring in 1995. He was Boy Scout master of Troop 282 for many years. He had an extensive train collection and often visited a shop in Southwick that rebuilt old steam engines using original blueprints. His wife, the former Shirley Dellea, died Jan. 22, 2006. They were married Oct. 4, 1958, at St. Peter's Church. He leaves two sons, Michael Wells of Hinsdale and Jonathan Wells of Great Barrington; a daughter, Maryanne Regan of Pittsfield; a sister, Virginia Lichtel of Housatonic; and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Leo H. Wells, who died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, will be conducted Tuesday at 3 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington by the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. A private burial will be held at a later date. Following the service, the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Great Barrington. Contributions in memory of Leo H. Wells may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad or the American Cancer Society of Berkshire County, through the funeral home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. He also leaves his grandchildren, Andrew, Alexis and Brandon Wells; daughters-in-law, Karry and Michele Wells; and son-in-law, Michael Regan.
